MEET DR. MARGARITA
Hi! My name is Margarita and I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine specializing in reproductive and sexual health, including fertility and IVF, pregnancy, hormonal balance, cycle regulation, and gender-affirming care.
For years, I struggled with severe hormonal acne, PMDD, irregular painful cycles, chronic fatigue, and migraines, all while Western medical doctors told me that “everything looked normal” on my bloodwork. I now know through integrative medicine that the “normal range” and “optimal range” are different, and we should not have to wait until there is an acute crisis to get the care we need.
I have worked with women and birthing people in various capacities since 2011, first as a caseworker for survivors of intimate partner violence and then as a birth and postpartum doula while I went to school for acupuncture.
I received my Masters and then my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in 2019 while assisting births at NYC hospitals and advocating for birth justice and maternal health outcomes in underserved communities.
I also completed advanced internships at the Labor & Delivery Unit at NYU Lutheran and the Institute for Family Health, giving me a breadth of experience into whole body health for people of all backgrounds.
After graduation, I became a full-time acupuncturist at Tia — a women’s health* startup bridging OBGYN, primary care, acupuncture, and mental health. Here, I managed a caseload of 40-60 clients per week, treating complex cases in gynecology, endocrinology, psychology, and dermatology.
After 3 years in practice, I founded Sanu Acupuncture in 2022 as a safe haven for all people struggling with hormonal well-being to be validated, heard, and offered tangible solutions for healing. I offer gender-inclusive reproductive and sexual healthcare including fertility and conception support for all sexes, hormonal and endocrine balance, uterine and pelvic health, cycle regulation for people who menstruate, and perinatal care (including prenatal, pregnancy, and postpartum). I strive to be culturally-competent, trauma-informed, and celebratory of all bodies and experiences.
MY ETHOS
I believe that hormonal health is a vital sign for our well-being. Hormonal balance is at the core of all our bodily systems, including our mental health, digestion, sleep, energy levels, skin, menstrual cycles, and chronic pain.
When we balance our hormones, we balance our lives — our digestion and sleep improves, our pain and inflammation subsides, our energy and libido increases, our cycles are regulated, and our skin is radiant and clear.
I am committed to getting to the root-cause of your symptoms to ensure that your hormones are thriving and you can life the life you desire — whether that’s conceiving a child, achieving pain-free periods, regulating your PCOS or blood sugar, increasing your energy levels or libido, or understanding the basics of hormone stability through lifestyle, nutrition, and herbs.
I know that the one-size-fits-all model leaves many of us excluded and silenced. I work collaboratively with my patients every step of the way to ensure that you receive long-term sustainable relief, and whole body wellness.
