MEET DR. MARGARITA
Hi! My name is Margarita and I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine specializing in fertility, OBGYN, chronic pain, and mental health. I work with patients of all backgrounds to relieve pain, balance hormones, achieve healthy pregnancies, and regulate digestion, sleep, moods, and stress.
For years, I struggled with severe hormonal acne, PMDD, painful cycles, chronic fatigue, and migraines, all while Western doctors told me that “everything looked normal” on my bloodwork. I now know through integrative medicine that the “normal range” and “optimal range” are different, and we should not have to wait until there is an acute crisis to get the care we deserve.
I have worked with women and birthing people in various capacities since 2011, first as a caseworker for survivors of intimate partner violence and then as a birth and postpartum doula while I went to school for acupuncture.
I received my Masters and then my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in 2019 while assisting births at NYC hospitals and advocating for birth justice and maternal health outcomes in underserved communities. I also completed advanced internships at the Labor & Delivery Unit at NYU Lutheran and the Institute for Family Health, giving me a breadth of experience into holistic health for people of all backgrounds.
After graduation, I became a full-time acupuncturist at Tia — a women’s health startup bridging OBGYN, primary care, acupuncture, and mental health. I managed a caseload of 40-60 patients per week with great clinical success.
I founded Sanu Acupuncture in 2022 as a safe haven for all people struggling with modern healthcare to be validated, heard, and offered tangible solutions for healing. I specialize in gender-inclusive reproductive and sexual healthcare including fertility and conception support, hormonal and endocrine balance, uterine and pelvic health, cycle regulation for people who menstruate, and perinatal care (including prenatal, pregnancy, and postpartum). I strive to be culturally-competent, trauma-informed, and celebratory of all bodies and experiences.
While you may notice an emphasis on fertility and reproductive wellness, I treat all internal and orthopedic medicine including pain, digestion, sleep, and more. Please see the FAQ page or email margarita@sanuacupuncture.com if you have questions about my experience treating your specific condition.
I am committed to getting to the root-cause of your symptoms to ensure that you are thriving and you can life the life you desire — whether that’s conceiving a child, achieving pain-free periods, regulating your PCOS or blood sugar, increasing your energy levels or libido, finally healing that stubborn shoulder pain, or understanding the basics of hormone stability through lifestyle, nutrition, and herbs. I know that the one-size-fits-all model leaves many of us excluded and silenced. I work collaboratively with my patients every step of the way to ensure that you receive long-term sustainable relief, and whole body wellness.
